Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing and the Scientific Committee it is our pleasure to cordially welcome you at the International Conference HEART FAILURE IN DIABETIC PATIENTS: STATE OF THE ART IN DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT 2009. This interdisciplinary meeting is held on March 13-14, 2009 under the auspices of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) - Committee on Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Board on Cardiovascular Pathology), Cardiology Society of Serbia, and both Cardiology and Endocrinology Section of the Serbian Medical Society.

Millennium Conference Centre and the beautiful town Vršac, Serbia are the proud hosts of this clinically oriented comprehensive scientific meeting covering state of the art research on endocrinology and cardiology aspects of diabetic heart failure. The conference is designed as a dynamic, interactive scientific event including educational seminars, "Meet the Experts" sessions, "How-to" video seminar, "Case-based Presentations of Complex Clinical Scenarios", and interactive debates. Basic science session "Pathophysiology and hemodynamics of heart failure" will be held IN MEMORIAM of a great scientist and professor, Dean of the Belgrade University School of Medicine, late ACADEMICIAN BOGDAN ĐURIČIĆ.

One of the highlights of the Conference will be HEMOFARM YOUNG INVESTIGATORS AWARD SESSION with presentations of six best abstracts dedicated to heart failure and/or cardiovascular complications in diabetes of authors less than 40 years of age. Two best contributions will be awarded by Hemofarm company with a diploma and completely covered travel and registration expenses at the next Congress of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC or Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Study Group of the EASD.

The meeting was prepared in close cooperation and truly made possible by Hemofarm pharmaceutical company, which is a part of Stada system and we would like to express our most sincere gratitude for their extensive efforts, kind and most instrumental assistance. Conference Venue - City of Vršac

City of VršacVršac is a beautiful town situated 85 km north-east of Belgrade, on the edge of the Pannonian plain, at the foot of the Vršac mountains, only 14 km away from the Romanian border. Vrsac belongs to the towns which are proud with good reason of their past and intensive development of cultural life. The town lies on the international road Belgrade-Timisoara and one can arrive from the capital in an hour by car. Vatin, the most frequent road border crossing with Romania, is only a ten-minute drive away. Road distance from Vrsac to Novi Sad is 145 km.

City of VršacThe symbol of the town - The Tower of Vrsac is the first thing you see when you arrive in Vrsac from any direction. This tower is a remnant of the former military-strategic fortress, built in the mid-XIV century. Municipality of Vrsac has 60,000 inhabitants. The town is a multiethnic community where members of 16 nationalities live. Thanks to the dynamic economic and social activities, as well as the natural potentials, significant population of the neighbouring municipalities gravitates towards Vrsac.

City of VršacGenuine treasure of cultural inheritance of these regions is found in the Town Museum (300,000 exhibits), which celebrated 120 years of existence in 2002, and the Town Library (founded in 1887, library holdings of 200,000 books). Theatre life in Vrsac has been in existence for over two centuries (the first theatre performance was staged as far back as 1773), while the National Theatre Sterija was opened in 1945. Vrsac has been known as an organizer of large and well-attended manifestations of different kinds for many years.

Powerful industry, that citizens are particularly proud of, is the carrier of the aggregate development of Vrsac and its surroundings. Hemofarm Group, leader in the domestic pharmaceutical industry and the model of many, even outside the country borders, is the backbone of the Vrsac economy. Over 3000 workers are employed in the Hemofarm Group. The products of Vrsac confectioners are on the offer of candies all over the world. Vrsac is also known for "Banatski rizling" (the Riesling of Banat) and other wine brands produced by the , as well as for the beer Champion and Zoffman produced in the . The mentioned companies, as well as many others in this area, guarantee that Vrsac will continue to grow and become richer and more beautiful.
